Idea 4G affordable phone
Idea announced, a better "affordable phone" will be launch at approximately Rs. 2,500 to counter Reliance JioPhone. Reliance Jio recently announced the ultra-cheap 4G VoLTE JioPhone at Rs. 1,500 Security deposit which is fully-refundable after three years. Idea Cellular on Friday said it is working with handset makers to bring down the cost of handsets.

The "affordable phone" will be a dual SIM supported device, comes with 2G and 4G network supported. The customers can pick their preferred operator, also use their favorite application. That indicates, The "affordable phone" could be an Android phone, because as of June 2017, most popular Android OS has the 64.2% market share and Google Play Store has the huge amount of apps which offer the users to Install their favorite apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, etc. The MD also said, "There will be extensive market research on the number of features that can be brought down, operating system and whether it should have touchscreen, among others"

Himanshu Kapania, the managing director of Idea Cellular Limited said, "One of the concerns is about net neutrality. It will not allow most of the apps which a customer prefers and the choice of apps may not work because it is forcing consumers to use an individual operator’s apps. The practical solution that we are working on is to work with the handset industry and work with them to be able to bring down cost of handsets by bringing down the bill of material, so that the gap of the announced price of Jio feature phone versus a smart-phone can be brought down to reasonable levels."
