With Nvidia's streaming service GeForce Now numerous current PC games can now be played on the Mac. The graphics chip manufacturer provides its servers for the calculation of the games available and transmits only the video signal to the Mac. Other things around, the servers receive the inputs via the mouse and keyboard from the local Apple hardware.
In order to keep the delay time between the input and the incoming video signal as low as possible, you need a fast internet connection. Nvidia requires a downstream of at least 25 Mbps. Optimal would be twice as fast downstream, with the delay should be only 30 milliseconds. If possible, an Ethernet cable or a 5 GHz WLAN should be used.
To keep manufacturer latency low, Nvidia's servers use Tesla GPUs. The manufacturer also promises to transmit the video signal at 60 frames per second in Full HD resolution. With intermittently lower bandwidth, GeForce Now downscales the resolution to continue to have a slight delay.
To play PC games on the Mac, all you have to do is install the GeForce Now app. There are then over a hundred games in a catalog that are suitable for playing on the Mac. This list should be constantly expanded. However, you have to own the games as a PC version. In addition, the app accesses the platforms Steam and Battle.net, over which the ownership of the game is confirmed. The app can be installed on Apple computers starting with OS X 10.10 Yosemite, which even supports a Mac Book from 2008.
